5K Run Unites Communities To Stop Executions in Iran

On Saturday, 10 October 2026, AWYAF joined organisers and supporters at Trent Park in North London for a special 5K run. The event marked the World Day Against the Death Penalty and supported the Stop Executions in Iran campaign.

Around 70 people took part in the London event. Meanwhile, similar runs took place in 8 other cities across Europe and Australia, creating a global show of solidarity.

A Day of Community and Solidarity

The occasion brought together people of different ages and backgrounds. Music, encouragement, and plenty of enthusiasm created an energetic and welcoming atmosphere. Families, friends, and even a few four-legged companions joined the day’s activities!

Working alongside the organisers, AWYAF helped deliver an event combining physical activity with human rights awareness. Participants enjoyed music, listened to speeches, and explored a photo exhibition highlighting the campaign’s importance.

One particularly encouraging aspect was the interest shown by members of the public. Even during preparations, passers-by stopped to ask about the event and its purpose. As more participants arrived, these conversations continued. They provided valuable opportunities to discuss the situation in Iran and the significance of the occasion.

Following the run, organisers presented prizes and medals to the winners and participants. The presentations celebrated everyone’s efforts and added to the positive atmosphere.

Media Coverage

The campaign also attracted welcome media attention. Ahead of the event, journalists from the Enfield Dispatch and Daily Express interviewed 2 organisers. They discussed the upcoming run and the situation surrounding executions in Iran. Local news outlet Enfield Today also published an article covering the occasion.

On the day, a VOA Persian reporter visited Trent Park to interview participants and record a news segment. This coverage helped the campaign reach audiences beyond those attending the event.

A Global Movement to Stop Executions in Iran

Beyond London, the runs across 8 other cities demonstrated the campaign’s international reach. Communities throughout Europe and Australia came together to raise awareness and mark the World Day Against the Death Penalty.

For AWYAF, the event was a rewarding opportunity to work alongside dedicated organisers, volunteers, and supporters. We were delighted by the enthusiastic participation and the genuine curiosity of people encountering the campaign for the first time.

The day was about more than completing 5 kilometres. It was about bringing people together, starting conversations, and showing how solidarity can reach across borders.

Finally, we extend our sincere thanks to everyone who organised, participated, volunteered, or stopped to learn more. Your enthusiasm and support helped make the occasion both memorable and meaningful.
