18th June 2025 - At least 10 prisoners were killed and over 30 injured in a brutal crackdown at Kermanshah’s Dizelabad Prison in Iran on 14 June 2025. The violence erupted following heightened tensions sparked by nearby explosions reportedly caused by an airstrike, which led to widespread panic among inmates.

Prisoners attempted to contact their families, fearing for their lives, prompting a violent response from prison authorities and the regime’s special forces.

Security forces stormed the facility, deploying live ammunition against unarmed inmates. Reports indicate that many of the wounded were denied prompt medical attention, and some later succumbed to their injuries. Eyewitnesses described the assault as an orchestrated massacre, with helicopters circling overhead during the operation.

Human rights groups, including Iran Human Rights Monitor, have condemned the incident as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian standards. The National Council of Resistance of Iran also decried the attack, linking it to the broader pattern of systemic repression and human rights abuses under the regime. Families of the victims have been left in anguish, denied access to information and barred from mourning.

The Dizelabad prison massacre is the latest grim reminder of the Iranian regime’s relentless suppression of dissent, even behind prison walls.
