On 16 September 2025, British parliamentarians, peers, legal experts, and members of the Anglo-Iranian community gathered at Westminster to mark the 3rd anniversary of Iran’s 2022 nationwide uprising. The event, hosted by cross-party MPs, reaffirmed support for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for a free, democratic, secular, and non-nuclear republic. Attendees paid tribute to the thousands killed during the protests and to the ongoing courage of political prisoners inside Iran.

Bob Blackman MP praised the determination of the Iranian people, emphasising that “the NCRI offers the only democratic alternative.” He urged the British Government to recognise the Iranian Resistance and take a firmer stance against the regime’s repression and its threats abroad.

Baroness O’Loan drew attention to the leading role of women in the movement, saying, “Iran’s women are leading a historic struggle,” and called on the UK to lead efforts at the United Nations for accountability.

Theresa Villiers MP highlighted the security threat posed by Tehran’s agents in the UK and insisted that “we must proscribe the IRGC now.”

Jim Shannon MP condemned the ongoing wave of executions, noting that “the world cannot ignore the killings,” while Baroness Redfern stated firmly that “justice for the victims must begin today.”

Former MEP Anthea McIntyre reflected that “appeasement has only emboldened the regime,” urging stronger international coordination.

Hossein Abedini the Iranian community in London reminded the audience that “every delay in action costs more innocent lives” and pressed for official recognition of the NCRI as the voice of democratic opposition.

Legal expert Sara Chandler described the situation in Iran as “a sustained assault on human rights” and emphasised the legal and moral duty of democratic nations to act.

Closing the event, former minister Sir David Amess’s long-standing parliamentary ally, Theresa Villiers, echoed his legacy of solidarity with the Iranian people, calling for justice, accountability, and unity in international support for the NCRI and its vision of a free Iran.
