The Iranian regime has halted the execution of three young men, Mohammad Rajabi, Saeed Tamjidi and Amirhossein Moradi, following a wide spread international pressure campaign.
A Farsi hashtag - meaning 'Don't Execute' - gained major momentum on social media platforms, apparently being tweeted 5 million times, calling for the regime to stop these executions.
The Iranian regime, executed two Kurdish political prisoners, Diako Rasoulzadeh and Saber Sheikh Abdullah, in Urmia Prison in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday, July 14, 2020. They were executed on the bogus charge of “Moharebeh” (waging war on God).
Diako Rasoulzadeh was arrested in 2013 in his hometown village of Daryas, and Saber Sheikh Abdullah was arrested in Mahabad around the same time in Mahabad. The two prisoners were tortured for a year at the intelligence ministry’s detention centre.
A prisoner was executed for “drinking alcohol” in Mashhad Central Prison.
Hossein Habibi Shahri, the prisoner’s lawyer, reported that his client, the father of two, had been sentenced to death for “drinking alcohol for the sixth time,” and that his sentence was carried out on July 9, 2020 in Mashhad Central Prison.
“My client was arrested in 2018 or 2017,” Mr. Habibi said. He was convicted of drinking alcohol for the sixth time. Of course, there was also the issue of driving without a license and keeping alcohol.“
Workers of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company are continuing their strike and protests for three weeks, gathering and demanding delayed paychecks and answers to other issues raised with company officials. The workers could be seen marching, joined by their family members and children.
The main demands raised by the protesting workers are:
- Immediate payment of their delayed paychecks and extending their insurance booklets
- Their colleagues who have been expelled from their jobs be returned to work immediately
- All company officials involved in corruption be expelled from their posts
- Immediately returning all the embezzled money from the company to the workers
- Retired managers should no longer have any say in the company’s affairs and make room for new individuals
Narges Mohammadi, who was the spokeswoman and vice president of the League of Human Rights Defenders in Iran, during a recent visit with her mother, Ms Ozra Bazargan, told her of the tormenting moments she goes through in prison.
Ms Bazargan narrated: “Narges said that two days ago, one of her inmates had been hanged after six years on the death row. Execution victims are taken to a solitary cell and quarantined 24 hours before their sentence is carried out. And this time period is terrible psychological torture both for the victim and for her cellmates.”
