Workers of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company are continuing their strike and protests for three weeks, gathering and demanding delayed paychecks and answers to other issues raised with company officials. The workers could be seen marching, joined by their family members and children.

The main demands raised by the protesting workers are:

- Immediate payment of their delayed paychecks and extending their insurance booklets

- Their colleagues who have been expelled from their jobs be returned to work immediately

- All company officials involved in corruption be expelled from their posts

- Immediately returning all the embezzled money from the company to the workers

- Retired managers should no longer have any say in the company’s affairs and make room for new individuals

The Iranian regime’s Supreme Court has upheld death sentences issued for Amir Hossein Moradi (aged 25), Saied Tamjidi (aged 27) and Mohammad Rajabi (aged 25), three political prisoners arrested during Iran’s November 2019 nationwide uprising, according to a report published on Wednesday, June 24, on the Hrana website.

Narges Mohammadi, who was the spokeswoman and vice president of the League of Human Rights Defenders in Iran, during a recent visit with her mother, Ms Ozra Bazargan, told her of the tormenting moments she goes through in prison.

Ms Bazargan narrated: “Narges said that two days ago, one of her inmates had been hanged after six years on the death row. Execution victims are taken to a solitary cell and quarantined 24 hours before their sentence is carried out. And this time period is terrible psychological torture both for the victim and for her cellmates.”

The Iranian regime’s Judiciary announced on Tuesday, May 5, after almost a month of secrecy, that it had arrested Amir Hossain Moradi and Ali Younesi. The Judiciary spokesperson, Gholam-Hossain Esmaili, claimed that these students had engaged in “diversionary actions” and were “attempting to carry out sabotage operations.” “Explosive devices used in sabotage operations were discovered when their homes were searched,” he said.

At its meeting on Monday 22 June, the UN Human Rights Council extended the mandate of Javed Rahman, the UN Special Representative for Human Rights in Iran, by a vote of 22 countries, for another year. Recalling the resolutions of the Human Rights Council since 2011, and Iran’s non-cooperation with the Human Rights Council and the General Assembly, while welcoming the Special Rapporteur’s report and recommendations on the human rights situation in Iran, the UN decided to extend the Special Rapporteur’s mission in Iran for another year.

Members of the United Kingdom’s House of Commons and House of Lords, members of the British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) in a press release on Thursday, condemned the Iranian regime’s arresting elite students Ali Younesi and Amir Hossain Moradi, particularly amid the coronavirus outbreak, and urged the UK government to mount international pressure on mullahs’ regime to release these prisoners.
