Amnesty International called for Iran to immediately release political prisoners and elite students Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi, who have been held on national security offenses, “including gathering and colluding to commit crimes against national security and spreading propaganda against the system”, for a year.

The human rights group tweeted: “For one year [Younesi and Moradi] have been held without trial in section 209 of Tehran’s Evin prison, under the control of the ministry of intelligence, and have been denied access to an independent lawyer of their own choosing.”

4th Feb 2020 - In a historic turn of events, a court in Antwerp, Belgium, sentenced Iran’s incarcerated diplomat-terrorist Assadollah Assadi to 20 years in prison on terrorism charges. This is the first time a diplomat on duty receives such a sentence. The court also sentenced Assadi’s co-conspirators, Nasimeh Naami, Mehrdad Arefani and Amir Saadouni to 18, 17, and 15 years in prison respectively. The four convicts had attempted to bomb the annual “Free Iran” gathering in 2018.

Despite numerous attempts to claim his diplomatic immunity, Assadi's diplomatic immunity was waived by the judge who ruled that at the time that Assadi was arrested, he was not in Austria where he was based as a diplomat and so it could not be applied in this case.

On Sunday, February 21, relatives of Behnam Mahjoubi confirmed the death of this imprisoned dervish. After months of torture in Evin Prison and a lack of necessary medical care, he was transferred from prison to Tehran’s Loghman Hospital.

There have been conflicting reports about his death under government censorship and judicial denials by executioners. Behnam Mahjoubi was suffering from severe epilepsy, and doctors had confirmed that he could not stand imprisonment.

8th Jan 2021 - The regime's supreme leader, Khamenei, announced in a tweet that he will be banning all imports of coronavirus vaccines from the UK, US and France, to Iran. Soon after posting this tweet, Twitter removed it. The baseless allegations made by Khamenei include, the vaccine being 'unreliable' and suggesting that these countries intend to infect the Iranian people with contaminated vaccines. The reality is that Khamenei has been giving mixed messages regarding the coronavirus vaccines from the start.

Protests erupted in the city of Saravan, southeast Iran, when the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) opened fire on a group of deprived Baluchi fuel porters, killing and wounding dozens. People in different parts of Sistan and Baluchistan staged protests and strikes, in some cities attacking IRGC bases.

These protests indicate the Iranian society’s restiveness. The Iranian regime has been killing deprived fuel porters in Sistan and Baluchistan, under the pretext of fighting smuggling. Yet, the IRGC controls Iran’s smuggling network.

12 Dec 2020 - In a historical turn of events, a group of United Nations experts from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, have written a well-documented letter to Iranian officials calling for an independent investigation into the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran. The letter was dated and sent on 2nd September 2020 but it went public earlier this week following a 60-day waiting period while Iran was given an opportunity to respond.

No indication of response has been made as of yet. This communication specifically noted that the Iranian regime had refused to cooperate with a number of inquiries into the massacre of political prisoners which took place between July and September of 1988.
