4th November 2022 - People in Iran have used the 40-day memorials of those killed in protests, as an opportunity to gather in large numbers and stage protests against the regime.

26 September 2022 - A new wave of national protests has erupted across Iran following the death of a Kurdish Iranian women by the name of Mahsa Amini (22) while she was in the custody of the so-called 'morality police.' On 13th September, Mahsa was arrested in the streets of Tehran because of not wearing her headscarf in accordance with the regime's strict hijab laws.

She was violently shoved into the police van and transferred to Vozara detention centre in Tehran. Within a few hours, police dropped her off at Kasra hospital, having fallen into a coma due to her injuries. With doctors not holding out hope for her survival, Mahsa died 3 days later on 16th September 2022.

15th October 2022 - At 9:50 PM Tehran Time, a huge explosion was heard which shook the windows of surrounding buildings. Some prisoners could be seen and heard on the roof of the Prison with chants of “death to the dictator, death to Khamenei.”.

According to reports from the scene, people from different parts of Tehran rushed to the Evin Prison to protest and prevent more security forces from raiding the jail and slaughtering prisoners. Security forces have been dispatched to disperse the crowd.

15th June 2022 - UN experts, including Mr. Javaid Rehman, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, have expressed concerns over the crackdown on civil society following months of protests in Iran. While people have been protesting low wages and poor working condition, the regime has ramped up arrests.

“We are alarmed at the recent escalation of allegedly arbitrary arrests of teachers, labour rights defenders and union leaders, lawyers, human rights defenders and other civil society actors,” the experts said.

Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the UN gave a statement on the violent crackdown of protests in Iran. The statement read: “We are increasingly concerned about reports of rising fatalities, including women and children, related to the protests. The Secretary-General calls on the security forces to refrain from using unnecessary or disproportionate force and appeals to all to exercise utmost restraint to avoid further escalation. We underline the need for prompt, impartial and effective investigation into Ms. Mahsa Amini’s death by an independent competent authority.

17th July 2022 - Iranian communities from across Europe held 2 large rallies in Brussels and Stockholm. In Brussels, a rally was held for the outside the Belgian Parliament, urging them not to pass a Bill which could see convicted terrorists, serving time in Belgium, sent back to their country of origin. At the same time as this rally, the verdict for the court case of Hamid Nouri was announced in Stockholm. Hamid Nouri was one of the perpetrators directly responsible for the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in the summer of 1989 in Iran. This trial resulted in Nouri getting a life sentence; between at least 20-25 years in prison.
