GENEVA (16 August 2019) – UN human rights experts* have condemned lengthy prison sentences against three Iranian women who are being arbitrarily detained for publicly protesting against the compulsory wearing of veils. “We are alarmed that the arrest and lengthy sentences handed to these women are directly related to the peaceful exercise of their rights to freedom of expression and assembly in the pursuit of gender equality in Iran,” the experts said. “We call upon the Iranian authorities to quash these convictions and immediately release all human rights defenders who have been arbitrarily detained for their work in advocating women’s rights, and to ensure full respect for the rights of women to freedom of opinion and expression, peaceful assembly and non-discrimination.”

After appointing Raisi as Head of Judiciary, the regime in Iran went on to appoint Abdolreza Mesri as the Deputy Chairman of Parliament. Both of these men were members of the Death Committee of the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran and even today they hold high ranking official places.

This goes the show that the atrocities of 1988 are not a forgotten matter, as the number of political prisoners is still rising and executions are an ongoing matter.

Reports have come that the Iranian Regime secretly executed two boys under the age of 18. The two boys, Mehdi Sohrabifar and Amin Sedaghat, two cousins, were both 15 years old when they were arrested and only 17 years old when they were secretly executed on 25th April 2019.

According to reports, the boys were secretly flogged before they were taken to the gallows to be secretly executed, on April 25th, their families were informed to go to the prison and collect their boys' possessions.
