In a rare and historic action, 106 Nobel Prize laureates issued a joint statement condemning the systematic repression and widespread human rights violations in Iran and declaring their firm support for the Iranian people’s uprising for freedom, social justice, and the establishment of a democratic republic. The statement highlights that protesters across Iran, by calling for freedom, reject all forms of dictatorship, whether royal or religious, and demand a democratic, pluralistic, and corruption-free republic.
The signatories affirm that the demands of the Iranian people are legitimate and fully aligned with universal values of freedom and human rights. According to the statement, the Iranian regime carried out more than 2,200 executions in 2025 alone in an attempt to suppress the growing popular uprising. Despite this brutal and shameless repression, the Nobel Prize winners stress that the authorities have failed to stop the Iranian people from continuing their struggle.
The statement concludes by asserting that the Iranian people deserve strong, sustained, and unwavering support from the free world. The signatories call on leaders of democratic and civilised countries to actively support the Iranian people’s pursuit of change, freedom, and social justice, and to help pave the way for Iran to join the community of democratic nations.
